RIP George Michael

I wore this outfit on Tuesday to run some errands and do some thrifting. I only thought it was proper to wear my George Michael pin in honor of his recent and sudden passing. Later in the afternoon I then learned (with the rest of the world) that Carrie Fisher passed away! UGH! 2016 has been the year that our childhood idols are dying. :(

I've been fan of George Michael since the 80s. My fondest memories are of my dance teacher Mr. Jodi obsessively playing George Michael songs for our jazz class warm ups. He would be singing the words to the songs while we did floor exercises or were practicing new dance moves he taught us. I believe Mr. Jodi even did a solo to a George Michael song for our dance school recital. I would also play my George Michael cassette's on repeat on my little red boombox that was a hand-me-down from my big brother. Ahhhh, memories.

Wearing; oversized button up (thrifted), long cardigan (H&M), so goth leggings (Killstar), earrings (The Pumpkin Coven), George Michael pin (vintage), creepers (TUK Shoes)

I can't wait to say goodbye to 2016. I don't believe that a new year instantly means a better year, but I believe it's good to look ahead and keep going.

My Natural Wave

Christmas Eve I worked a short day, so I opted to wear my Gingerdead sweater (Sourpuss Clothing) as well as letting my hair be in its natural wavy state. I would tend to not wear my hair wavy, because when it was shorter it was unruly and would look....well, odd. Now with a longer length I decided to use my diffuser attachment on my blow dryer, a little styling cream and with the aid of 'scrunching' my hair. Voila! I really like that I have another styling option.

I just got my hair trimmed and my new growth bleached, so I think next time I let the waves be free (Hehe!) I think it will look that much better. I can't believe it's been over two months since I had my hair done. The Overtone Silver Weekly treatment has really been helping me to extend the length between hair appointments.

Wearing; gingerdead sweater (Sourpuss Clothing), skirt (was a dress), leather engineer boots (Target), candy cane pin (vintage), earrings (the pumpkin coven)

Do you have naturally wavy or curly hair and what sort of styling advice do you have for me?

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Pizza Sweater

I want to start by saying thank you for everyone for your kind words about Derek's Nana's passing, your sweet words and condolences mean a lot. We've been home since last Wednesday and enjoyed a quiet Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I've already packed up kitschmas and am happy to have the house back to 'normal'.

On Thursday I wore the pizza sweater I got to wear on my birthday as our friend's Danielle and Mike were taking me out for gluten free pizza and I wanted to dress in theme. I love pizza A LOT and now that I am gluten free, it takes a lot of the fun out of spontaneously going to grab a slice, but luckily there are some restaurants offer GF options. Though we didn't get to go out due our family emergency (which is much more important than pizza), I did get to wear my sweater while enjoying a frozen pizza and wine. Hehe!

Wearing: pizza sweater (Killstar), jeans (I haven't been able to fit into for a year until now. Yay!), Dr. Martens (old, ebay), collared shirt (thrift).

I just can't be in a bad mood while wearing a pizza sweater, especially one that is black and white. Hehehe!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday(s) however you celebrate!!!

Thank you for reading, until next time!

(Not Such a) Happy Birthday

My birthday was the 19th and I turned 36, which doesn't bother me in the slightest. I got this gorgeous necklace from Derek by Purgatory Plaything. I own a few of her pieces, so I'm excited to add this one to the collection!

So, why wasn't my birthday not so happy? Well, Derek's grandmother was dying. We found out late last week that she was gravely ill and didn't have much time, but when we found out this information, his parents told us not to worry about making the trip as time was running out. Well Nana (as they all call her), held on for quite a few days and there was some hope that she may rally and still live. Well, we got the call on Sunday evening to come and say goodbye, so I scrabbled around to get last minute flights for Monday to get us to Virginia.

Needless to say it was sad. A woman who was so healthy and vibrant two months ago when we surprised her with a visit, was lying there lifeless looking like she was 100. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving sons and family. I'm glad we went, as I know it was good for Derek and the rest of his family, especially his Father. I loved Nana like she was my own Grandmother. She welcomed me with one arms into her close knit family and would always hold my hand and tell me, "I'm so glad you (Derek and I) found each other."

So, I now share my birthday with Nana's passing, but (as her family believes), it was her new birthday joining God.

I'm so ready to say goodbye to 2016

New Romantic

Julie Ann had hipped me to a documentary about the 80s band Spandeau Ballet that is on Netflix instant watch called, Soul Boys of the Western World. Naturally I had to check it out as I love 80s music and I am a lover of documentary's. This one did not disappoint! I have been reading a book about post punk music and the New Romantic's are included in some of the band's history's, so it was neat to learn more about Spandeau Ballet as I did not realize how hugely popular they were and are still today!

I was inspired by the band's early clothing and wanted to wear something ruffley (but warm) and choose my beret, as hats and accessories were very big for the New Romantics. Oh the fashion! How I love the fashion!

Wearing; white/black ruffle shirt (old, Lip Service), oversize cardigan (thrift), velvet beret (estate sale, vintage) earrings (80s, thrift), pins (Last Craft), jeggings (Target), pointed boots (Nasty Gal)

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

The Pumpkin Coven

Friday was one of those days that I had planned my outfit for work and it just didn't work out. In my frustration I just grabbed some pieces and hoped for the best, which included my favorite cardigan, a button up shirt and lace skirt. I added some accessories and Voila!, ready for the day.

Those accessories included my new pieces from The Pumpkin Coven that I grabbed when they were having a $5 sale. I have seen their jewelry on instagram and lusted after a lot of the pieces, so I was pleasantly surprised to not only see how inexpensive they were, but that they ship to the US. I picked up four items, which I'm sure will become new favorites. *Wink*

Shout out to NYX's matte lipstick in the shade Up the Bass. I really dig the shade and find the matte lipstick to not be too drying, I have to say the staying power (I always use lip primer) is not as good as Wet n' Wild's matte lipsticks that I regularly wear. I would still like to try out some more of NYX's matte shades.

Thank you for reading, until next time!!!

She Wore a Black Velvet Beret

This black velvet beret has been my go-to accessory as of late. I had been wanting a velvet beret for years and I finally found a vintage one for pennies at an estate sale. Since my hair has gotten so much longer (how the heck did that happen?!) it takes me a lot longer to style and when I want to wash/blow dry and go, I just plop on my beret so I don't have to spend an hour straightening/teasing/spraying.

This was a casual and warm outfit that I wore on Monday to do some thrifting and run some errands with Derek. I picked up a two dresses from www.boohoo.com since I got them for 50% off and I wanted dresses with SLEEVES. I know bell sleeves are in right now and I love them, but I wear a sweater over all my dresses and it sorta defeats the purpose of wearing amazing sleeves. So yeah, basic dresses for layering have been something I've been on quest for and this dress is a welcome addition to my winter wardrobe.

I'm still not ready for winter, yet I will be living in my long cardigans and layers and bracing myself for the lake effect snow that I will be visiting us very cool. *grumblebats*

Have Yourself a Merry Little Kitschmas

On Saturday Derek had an art show at his tattoo shop entitled, "A Very Scary Christmas". Unfortunately I was too busy and didn't get any photos of the show, but it was a lovely time as always. I couldn't help, but be festive with a holiday themed sweater that I grabbed a Target. This is the way I cope with working retail, having a birthday in December and pretty much not really liking Christmas in general.....though Derek makes me to love kitschmas!

We started to decorate on Thanksgiving and it's been full blown kitschmas around This Old Goth Haus. It's technically our 3rd December at the house, but since we closed on the house on December 23rd in 2014, it is our 2nd official kitschmas and (soon-to-be) two year homeownership!

Candy canes and snowmen and wreaths, oh my!

I love my home so much, and I love filling it with warmth and memories with my amazing partner-in-crime. Derek always makes the holidays special and has turned my 'bah humbug' attitude into realizing holidays and celebrations don't have to be what is expected, rather it has become our own traditions and fun.

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Thrifty Finds : Emily Strange Coat

I apologize in advance for trying to photograph a black coat, had to do some major lightening up of the photos. Hahaha! Well, I was excited to find this coat while on a recent trip to the thrift store. I was skimming through the coats and the embroidered detailing on the collar caught my eye.

I pulled out the coat only to be shocked that it had an Emily Strange tag on the inside and it was incredibly adorable! The coat has slight flared sleeves, a tulip flare at the bottom and large pockets on the front with bow details. And I can't forget to mention that the embroidered designs are little cats and filagree. Too cute!

(right side lightened for more detail)

I was on the hunt for a shorter style coat, but I couldn't pass this rare find! It looks like it had never been worn and was in (what looks like) brand new condition. Sold for $30! Oh yes, it's also warm with it being 63% wool. I like being warm. *Big smile*

Teehee. Can't forget to show the cute Halloween cat sweater underneath!

I hope you all have a great Saturday, until next time!
