Thrifty Finds : Emily Strange Coat

I apologize in advance for trying to photograph a black coat, had to do some major lightening up of the photos. Hahaha! Well, I was excited to find this coat while on a recent trip to the thrift store. I was skimming through the coats and the embroidered detailing on the collar caught my eye.

I pulled out the coat only to be shocked that it had an Emily Strange tag on the inside and it was incredibly adorable! The coat has slight flared sleeves, a tulip flare at the bottom and large pockets on the front with bow details. And I can't forget to mention that the embroidered designs are little cats and filagree. Too cute!

(right side lightened for more detail)

I was on the hunt for a shorter style coat, but I couldn't pass this rare find! It looks like it had never been worn and was in (what looks like) brand new condition. Sold for $30! Oh yes, it's also warm with it being 63% wool. I like being warm. *Big smile*

Teehee. Can't forget to show the cute Halloween cat sweater underneath!

I hope you all have a great Saturday, until next time!

    1. I remember a girl in school had an Emily Strange cardi, at first I thought it was monogrammed as her name was Emily. When I found out about the character I was jealous!

    2. I didn't know they made coats either! I knew there were t-shirts, accessories and the occasional sweater or hoodie would pop up.

  3. I've had the same coat since it came out! I want to say that was roughly 13 years ago... I may be wrong on exactly how long, but I know that I have definitely had it for over 10 years. It's held up supremely well and it's one of my go-to coats. It's survived many a Black Friday.

The only thing I've ever had to repair is the buttons on the tabs by the pockets. Since they can get caught, they loosen up and then the tabs can flop around. I may reinforce them with some fishing line... But yeah, it'll treat you right! Great find!

  6. Love the cat and filigree detail at the collar! <3 Such a find! Emily Strange has such cute and dark things. I haven't seen them for years (though maybe I'm just shopping in the wrong shops?) :) So perfect that you found this Meagan!

    1. I don't think they are around any more other than finding older things via thrift, ebay or if people are selling them. Some of my friends have old t-shirts, purses, etc. Definitely a gem in the wild while thrifting. Hehehe!
