Elegantly Thrifted : Black Chiffon

I picked up this long black chiffon skirt while on a thrift store shopping trip and I knew it was the perfect  versatile skirt. Light and flowy, romantic and comfortable.

I wanted to share this look as most of the pieces are from a thrift store or second hand. Over many years of going out, people would compliment me on my outfits and say, "I wish I could look dress really goth, but I don't have a lot of money". I always encourage them, as it doesn't take a lot of money to put together some gothy goodness for the club, concert, etc.

-ruffled long cardigan by Betsey Johnson, thrift shop $6
-long chiffon skirt, thrift shop $3
-Fury-06 boots by Demonia, ebay $26
-ear cuff, Forever 21 $5
-stretch belt, Forever 21 $5
-velvet choker $1
-rose necklace, gift from a friend

I couldn't help but twirl around and around in the skirt, plus the cardigan has some dramatic sleeves which are perfect for swooning and swaying on the dance floor. I can hear "She's In Parties" playing quietly in the back ground. Okay, who am I kidding,  let's play it loud!

Thank you for reading!

  1. You are an amazing thrift shopper. I rarely find anything any more, but I don't exactly come from a high fashion city. Most of the stuff that ends up in thrift stores here are like tacky over-sized 80s/90s dress suits lol.

    1. I have to weed through a lot of crap too, Buffalo was listed as the 10th worst dress city by some poll last year. Hahaha!
I have a gem that is a thrift store that I shop at, I have to admit I'm usually helpful and share my 'places to shop', but this one I'm keeping to myself. Hahahaa! Aren't I terrible ;)

  2. I love the outfit! I, too, get most of my things secondhand! That beautiful ruffled cardi was an amazing find! I am going to be looking for something like that now! I love the whole outfit, really! Oh and I love She's In Parties! Yayyy!

  4. Awesome outfit! It's even more awesome considering how little you spent for each item. I think thrift shopping is an art XD not only it's not easy to find clothes that go with your wardrobe, but also one must be able to combine them in a way that they have this gothic vibe like in this outfit. That's something I can't do, I always buy very elaborate items, instead of buying simpler ones that I could match together or compliment with accessories. That's something you can do really well :)

  8. Morticia, is that you?

Pretty soon, you'll ban me from commenting! First I say you remind me of the Bride of Frankenstein and now Morticia... But you know that's the biggest compliment I can give, right?

You're smart to keep the location of your favourite thrift store to yourself. It's just like you can't go shopping with a fellow thrifter when you like the same things - you just know it's gonna cause trouble! ;o)

  11. I adore deeply gothic looks!

I love long ruffly wrap sweaters. I bought one nearly identical to that (mine doesn't have the raw looking edges, which I simply adore, though) at the store I worked for back in Canada; it was a whopping $3 with my store discount-- woo hoo for deals! Apart from my previous work and sewing/crafting, all other clothing was thrifted as well-- so I totally agree with the philosophy that you don't need oodles of cash to pull out a decadent goth outfit!

    Great finds!

  12. Oh I love how you put together this outfit, it is lovely. I'm used to see you in more punk rock or retro outfits but you show clearly how you can fit all styles. :)

    1. Thank you, that is an awesome compliment! I love more flowy romantic goth clothing, Victorian pieces, etc., but the more dark punk/retro look is more of my 'everyday' style. I like to play with pieces and since it's winter here, it makes me want to wear lots of layers :)

  13. I loved the look out of the full outfit, and i must say that were such amazing finds, a Betsey Johnson coat <3 never saw none live. And the skirt it's really cute, I wish there were such thing as second hand stores where i live.
Either way I am a true believer that there is no need of all brand outfits to look amazing, there is such amazing, lacey , velvety things on normal shops, you just have to search a bit more.
Agree! She's in Parties and Passion of Lovers never should be played in low voice :P

    1. Exactly! I am not against 'labels' as I really like to support independent designers, etc., and have some expensive pieces in my wardrobe, but I like to show that fashion doesn't need to come with a hefty price tag.

  14. This is a great outfit!

I love to prove that you can look awesomely goth on a budget too. When I got asked by some people from the clothes show to talk about my style in our local shopping centre, I deliberately wore an outfit made up entirely from high street bargains and thrifted finds; adding together how long I'd owned all the clothes the outfit was older than me! I didn't go down well with the crowd (This is Birmingham; home of the chav after all) but it sure was funny to confuse the 'celebrity stylist' who seemed to think I was wearing a dress under my charity shop jacket; it was actually a lace top, a vest top and 2 different high street skirts. Layering is the key!

I also jealously guard the locations of my favourite charity shops! The worst thing is when I find a bunch of clothes I love, clearly all donated by someone with my kind of taste in clothes but who wears a different size to me!

I love this skirt and it looks great with the cardigan (why can't I find knitwear like this??) the belt is a great touch too!

    1. That is awesome, I love that you puzzled the stylist (even though she shouldn't have been so shocked!, layering is definitely the key ;)

I agree with you about the money stuff. In second hand shops you can find lovely treasures for less money. You just have to search and searh ;).

  17. Gorgeous outfit! I agree, it doesn't have to take a lot of money. There are a lot of people selling used clothing for good prices online and often the coolest part of a person's outfit is something that they made themselves.

    1. Yes! I buy from ebay and etsy. Some people think it's weird to buy second hand, but I don't! Haha! =D
